Franklin High School mobile application

July 5th, 2012 by Gage Pacifera

Over the summer I’ll be acting as technical advisor for a neat project going on at Franklin High School. We’ve got a small crack team of kids spearheading an effort to build a mobile application that will be used by students at FHS. The idea is that this application will be designed and programmed by the students, allowing them to learn all sorts of skills related to application design and development.

We’re off to a great start. Over the course of the past couple months we have developed a pretty well thought-out design and are now about ready to dive into the coding. The app will run as a web application using HTML5 and will be optimized for mobile devices. This week we’ll have our first coding training session where I’ll teach them some HTML and CSS. By the end of the project we’ll also cover Javascript (including AJAX and jQuery), RSS feeds and WordPress. The goal is to have a first iteration of the app ready for the upcoming school year.
