Website Accessibility

Make your site usable for everybody and achieve WCAG and section 508 compliance.

Here are Harmonic Northwest, we believe that access to information is a fundamental human right. When you make your website accessible, you make the web a better place for everyone, and especially for those with disabilities.

Harmonic Northwest offers accessibility auditing and remediation services to ensure that your website meets common accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.2, 2.1, A and AA. Our Accessibility Audit is a great place to start—we can run a combination of automated and manual tests to produce a punchlist of items to fix to bring your site into compliance. We are expert accessibility remediators who can make code and content updates on websites on a wide variety of platforms.

WCAG and Section 508 compliance

Harmonic Northwest is great at wrangling websites into compliance with WCAG standards. We typically recommend aiming for WCAG 2.2 AA compliance and also have experience with WCAG 2.1 AA, WCAG 2.1 A and WCAG 2.2 A. WCAG AA compliance generally leads to Section 508 compliance, as well.

Lighthouse and PageSpeed Insights

We often use Google’s Lighthouse and PageSpeed Insights automated testing to provide us with actionable accessibility metrics. Bumping up these scores can lead to a better user experience and better search engine result placement.

Semantic code

We know the tricks of the trade that ensure web browsers, screen readers and search engine content scrapers understand the content on your site. We know how to use H1 through H6 headings, when to implement ARIA labels and which ones are appropriate, what to do with offscreen content, how to handle form controls, etc.

Website accessibility audits

Harmonic Northwest offers website accessibility audits as a service to companies of all shapes and sizes. We use a combination of automated and manual testing to produce a checklist of items to bring your website into WCAG 2.2 compliance. Learn more about our audits ›

We know the tools of the trade

We have experience with a variety of tools for identifying, remediating and tracking progress for accessibility issues. That list of tools includes Google Lighthouse, Google PageSpeed, axe DevTools, WAVE accessibility evaluation tool, and Acquia Optimize.

We also utilize a number of other tools that allow for fine-grained testing of specific classes of accessibility issues. The WebAIM Contrast Checker allows a user to input a foreground and background color to determine if there is sufficient contrast between text or iconography and a background. The ARIA DevTools plugin allows fully sighted users to view a website as a screen reader would. The Web Disability Simulator approximates the online experience of your website from the perspective of a person with disabilities of your choosing.
